La Zebra Restaurant Redesign

Every part of this hotel and restaurant emits a strong Mexican vibe, which was an important element to maintain when considering a redesign of the restaurant. The furniture was heavy and starting to look old-fashioned. It was also necessary to create a separate space and feel from the beach.

Part of the solution was selecting bamboo chairs to match the original tables. We also hung canopies on the ceiling, creating a layered effect in the space. We utilized henequen ropes for the entire perimeter, evoking the Yucatan millenary industry.

For the bathrooms, which lacked an identity, we designed custom Mexican tile to maintain the authentic Mexican roots, one for the men’s room and a different tile for the women’s room. We created a new sink table and kept the original doors by painting them to keep costs down.

New tile flooring imitating wood in a light color was perfect for keeping the natural look and feel, replacing the previous floor which was slippery and hard to keep clean.

The overall look is now one that is faithful to the local Mexican culture and well-loved by guests. They often ask where they can find the furniture and tiles, which were all custom designed so are not available to the public.
